US Cavalry M1872 officer's sword
A scaled down version of the M1860 cavalry sword and represents the Army's mindset change away from the saber as the primary weapon to the firearm.  I have always liked these old '72's and they are probably the only edged weapon still undervalued by the collecting community.
This example is an officer's model noted by the added embellishements to the scabbard fittings and guard.  It is unmarked, likely a German made import, and has a great loooking clean bright blade, excellent scabbard, excellent fittings, it does have some minor leather chips to the wire wrapped grip.
