Posthumous Korean War Silver Star trio from West Point cadet
Clarence Virgil Slack, Jr. of West Virginia
graduated class of 1945 from the US Military Academy at West Point. He
earned the posthumous award of the Silver Star on March 14, 1951 when his F-80
"Shooting Star" was hit by North Korean AA fire while leading a combat
mission with the 36th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.
Captain Slack's awards here are his officially named Silver Star, officially
named Purple Heart, and unnamed as issued Air medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Note that the he earned a Second OLC to the Air Medal but it was never mounted
on this unnamed pre-KIA award. The trio is accompanied by a sterling
marked clutchback 1940's vintage AAF/AF Pilot wing and much research.
