Uniform of 8th AAF Fighter Ace ‘Spokan Chief’
Lt. Col. Eugene Paul Edwards earned the U.S. Distinguished Service Cross and the English Distinguished Flying Cross as a fighter pilot in the ETO with the 8th AAF. Roberts flew "Spokane Chief" P-47C s/n 41-6630 WZ+Z as Commander 84th Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group Aug 1942 - Sept 1943, Deputy Group Commander 78th Fighter Group Sept 1943 - Dec 1943, Commander 364th FG Jan 1945 - Nov 1945. Credited with 9 air kills with the 84th Fighter Squadron.
Included here is his custom tailored chocolate brown officer’s service blouse, neatly period named on label in the pocket. Insignia, all original as worn, includes bullion Lt. Col. Leaves, English made 8th AAF patch, sterling pinback US made Pilot’s wing and collar emblems, and an English made ribbon bar with US DSC, US DFC, and English DFC awards sewn to the breast. Light wear, no damage.
