William Britains Knights of Agincourt
Most toy makers produced knights and some are well detailed with specific battles or knights portrayed. The Heyde and Elastolin knights for example stand out for thier quality. Wm Britains chose the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 as the theme for this set of 1:32 scale lead knights and most consider them among the best made. The sculpter roy Selwyn Smith created ten models in 1951 for sale in the U.S. His knights were named and correctly painted, but the death of his business partner forced a change in plans and he sold the molds to Britains who renamed them and marketed them as the Knights of Agincourt in 1954. The figures retained Smith's art and quality. The 6 foot knights were issued as a boxed set and the 4 mounted knights were individually boxed with the early boxes having a 'brick' castle design to them. The first issue mounted knights are found with gold armor knee plates but this was discontinued due to producction costs.
The original Roy Selwyn-Smith Knights. The very short production life of approximately nine months is reflected in the sale prices. They occasionally come up at auction.
