Gettysburg Veterans GAR Shaving Mug
Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Shaving mug with handle, about 3.5 inches tall and featuring the GAR membership medal and the veterans name "J. N. Coons". James N. Coons (also found in records as "Coon") enlisted from Auburn, NY on 7/30/1862 at age 18 as a private in Co. E, 111th New York infantry Regiment. The regiment surrendered at Harpers Ferry but was quickly paroled. Serving at Gettysburg, Fox's Fighting 300 reads, the 111th New York "engaged at Gettysburg on the second day of the battle, in the brilliant and successful charge of Willard's brigade, losing 58 killed, and 177 wounded,. Coons was wounded at Gettysburg on July 3rd, likely in this charge.
