Posthumous gallantry group to 307th Bomb Group officer

Lt. Robert Bjornholm served as the bombardier on a B 24 Liberator with the 307 Bombardment group, 13 Air Force. On March 29, 1944, the 307th took part in a raid on the heavily defended Truk airfield.  Lt. Bjornholms' plane was hit and started to go down with Japanese Zeros in pursuit. Eye witnesses report that 4 crewmen parachuted out but that the Japanese fighters continued to strafe the plane and the crewmen in their parachutes.
This group has Lt. Bjornholms' cased and officially engraved Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Silver Star.  There is an unnamed Purple Heart that came with the group but is assumed to be a replacement as he would have received a named posthumous award.
The medals are in their wartime issue cases and further included are his wings, some insignia, graduation class book, photo's and excellent research.
