Excellent Illinois vets career
medal group
Robert Renth service from 1916 on the Mexican Border through WWI
where he was wounded in action into staff service in WWII.
Research show that Renth enlisted in the Michigan National Guard
in 1912, transferred to the Illinois Guard in 1916, and retired a
full Colonel in 1954. He died in 1961 after years of serving
his country.
His group includes Mexican Border Service Medal number 7826
(attributed to "Robert L. Renth, Chicago, Illinois), WWI Victory
medal with clasps for AISNE & DEFENSIVE SECTOR, an unnamed WWII
vintage Purple Heart (issued for WWI wound but no idea where or if
he received a 1932 award), ring suspension WWI Occupation Medal,
French Croix d' Guerre, service medals for WWII and a rather scarce
first issue Army Commendation medal with the sewn broach and early
official script engraved naming.
Also in the group are several other awards to include a very nice
2nd Illinois Guard Long Service medal engraved to Renth in 1916 as a
member of Company E, a neat 1916 US SERVICE MEXICAN BORDER badge,
early VFW medal and more to include a WWII clutch back set of ribbon
bars representing all his awards!
Includes some research and a fine career group!
